We had a really traumatic incident this evening just before it went dark. Our dog disappeared under some barbed wire and then we heard her squeal. Then she disappeared. We called the police and they sent out a car to us. However, something was lost in translation and three fire engines and a rock face rescue team was sent out. We had said it was our dog who went over but the message to the local station was that one of us went over the cliff. Despite this, the team that turned up agreed in any case to help us and sent a team out along the top and the bottom to look for our dog. Understandably, they would not risk a person going down the cliff to find a dog (rather than a person) but they searched on foot for over an hour. Just as the search was called off, the owner of the local B&B that we were staying at called to say that our dog had made her way back there - she must have fallen only a short way and then somehow found her way home. It was a miracle given that we had only arrived in the area a few hours earlier. The teams that helped us weren't angry about this, instead they were happy for us. They were so caring and helpful and empathetic. We are so grateful to them. If she had fallen further and been injured or killed we couldn't have lived with ourselves if we hadn't tried to retrieve her and they supported us in that even though they didn't have to. That is what we think of when we think of our emergency services - real heroes. They are exactly that and gracious to boot! Thank you so much for all those men who supported us this evening. We are more grateful than you can imagine.
